Readings for June 9, 2009

2Cor 1:18-22
18God knows that our dealing with you is not Yes and No, 19just as the Son of God, Christ Jesus, whom we—Silvanus, Timothy and I—preach to you, was not Yes and No; with him it was simply Yes. 20In him all the promises of God have come to be a Yes, and we also say in his name: Amen! giving thanks to God. 21God himself has anointed us and strengthens us with you to serve Christ; 22he has marked us with his own seal in a first outpouring of the Spirit in our hearts.

Ps 119:129-135
129Wonderful are your decrees; my soul cannot but keep them.
130As your words unfold, light is shed, and the simple-hearted understand.
131I gasp in ardent yearning for your commandments that I love.
132Turn to me then and be gracious as to those who love your name.
133You promised to direct my steps; free my path from evil.
134Rescue me from human oppression, and help me keep your precepts.
135Favor me with your smile and teach me your statutes.

Mt 5: 13-16
13Zerubbabel was the father of Abiud, Abiud of Eliakim, and Eliakim of Azor. 14Azor was the father of Zadok, Zadok the father of Akim, and Akim the father of Eliud. 15Eliud was the father of Eleazar, Eleazar of Matthan, and Matthan of Jacob.
16Jacob was the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, and from her came Jesus who is called the Christ – the Messiah.
